It was fine. I thought we would get more about Marjani's life before and how she became a pirate. But the Safin was really cute and we learned some new facts about the world. I'm curious to see if this means that Marjani will play a bigger role in the next book. I liked Naji's short story better.

I really loved learning about Marjani's past but the writing style was a bit stiff to me and the actual plot of Marjani's past wasn't that interesting to me.

I really liked this short story, too. It was fun getting to learn about Marjani, though I wish it would have gone into more depth about why she had to leave home. I mean, it's obviously because she fell in love with a woman, but I want to know MORE. Still, it was a nice little short story!
