Two things:
1. Bees are fascinating.
2. Humans are cruel.

I loved this book. Rarely does a book make me feel so emotional. It wasn’t the plot or the love story or the love between mother and son or the resentment and hatred between father and son that pulled me in, it was how the characters were written. They were some of the most well written characters I’ve read about in a while because they felt real. They had real flaws and they had actual consequences. They had wants and desires and things that bothered them.

The story itself was really good too. Having most of it told through a child’s perspective was a good way to go about a story like this. It think it was easier to understand love seen through a child’s perspective because their opinions aren’t really colored yet. Also, the plot line with Charlie and his father hit so close to home and had it not I almost wouldn’t be realistic or that it was overdramatic but because it felt so real, I think that was why it felt so emotional.
