The first almost 200 pages of this book is brilliant.  Actually brilliant--amazing.  And then it all falls apart and characters do things I don't believe they'd ever do, and she becomes most intrigued, it seems, with whether a hermaphrodite can impregnate her own self... [GROAN]
It was a book that wanted to be better than it is, that could have been better than it is, and that makes me wonder: when do you stop reading a book?  To save it from its own ending?
I wondered if Kathleen Winter was emotionally immature!  ....to never have Wayne become angry with Thomasina for her absence.  To never even seem angry, but surely I'm not the only one who noticed Wayne was alone without support and Thomasina was on the other side of the world sending him postcards of bridges?!
