Addicted follows Zoe a successful married middle class black woman seeking help from a therapist for sexual addiction. Through sessions with her therapist Zoe begins by telling the story starting from her early childhood. We see Zoe's relationship with her husband Jason grow from childhood enemies to high school sweethearts to marriage and children. They are both successful and from the outside looking in the perfect family. As Zoe struggles with her sex addiction her perfect life and persona begin to unravel. I did question Zoe being branded as a sex addict. She is a woman with suppressed childhood sexual trauma that she needed to deal with in a sexually unfulfilling marriage. This leads to her destructive behavior. The story is fast paced, drama filled and keeps you drawn in. I wouldn't say it's a romance. It was more suspense, thriller to me. I thought the plot was good but there is A LOT that happens in this novel. There are parts of the story that are far fetched but still a great read. It adds to the drama and ultimate conclusion.

I like the depth of using a therapist to help her work through her issues.

Addicted is classified as erotica - not my typical genre that’s for sure! The set-up is that Zoe is a successful Black businesswoman, allegedly happily married to her childhood sweetheart. Except she is sexually unfulfilled and suffering from a sex addiction (I never brought the addiction and would argue she was sexually frustrated) so pursues three overlapping affairs. This book never once made me feel the way I expected erotica would, but perhaps that’s just a matter of personal taste and I should simply file this book as not for me. However, I had one big concern, which was that each of Zoe’s extra-marital partners attempted to kill her. The implicit message disturbed me. It felt like s**t shaming, an alarmist cautionary tale, a warning to women as to what would happen if they dared to seek sexual fulfilment.

I finished this book simply because I wanted to see where the weird plot went.  I didn't particularly enjoy reading it.
