Un très bon moment de lecture ! J'ai particulièrement apprécié le rythme rapide, presque par flashs, que permettent les chapitres courts mais qui n'empêche pas pour autant d'être complètement absorbé par l'intrigue.

This engaging read manages to comment of so many topics and themes into a short format and often in a very subtle way: sister relationships, the aftermath of domestic violence, child abuse, possible PTSD, gender inequality, childhood bullying, superficiality of men and culture overall, class and social structure in Lagos (including skin color, education, money, job hierarchies), the power of Big Men, the vapidity of Insta culture, the meaning of shared language, food as comfort and food as power, and more....since I really know nothing about Nigerian culture and have never been there, I am sure I am missing a lot of commentary on Nigerian culture. I think anyone looking for a thriller will be disappointed, but if you want a quick romp through the lives of some truly complex and realistic people and a primer on the relationship between sisters mixed with some commentary on the preceding topics, this is a great one. I thoroughly enjoyed this book even as my heart broke for pretty much everyone in the book. There are no purely good or purely evil characters in this book. So much is left unsaid about both the past and the present that I know I'll be thinking about this book for awhile.

3 stars. This was not a thriller/mystery in the slightest. It's more of a dark humor family drama. I was definitely enraptured in the beginning of this book, and the many moral dilemmas it imposes.

There definitely could have been more work done with some of the relationships and plot points, but the sister/family dynamic was spot on.

This is a book that can be finished in one sitting. I chose the audio version and I was entertained, even when a little confused. The character names got mixed up in my head but I was able to follow along. I think the only thing I can say without spoiling things is that blood is blood.
