Man, what a mind trip! So much happens and there are so many surprises you really won’t know which way is up. I loved this book just as much as the previous and really enjoyed seeing how everything worked out after the first.

✨ romantic suspense
✨ thriller/mystery
✨ detective & psychologist

Being the son of serial killer Nick turned to become a cop and make use of his history. When bodies start popping up around Dr. Elizabeth Nolan she starts as a suspect. Who had run away after a one night stand with a handsome cop who shows up at her work. Drawn to her in a way Nick can’t explain he has to save Elizabeth from herself and her past, and potentially a serial killer before it’s too late.

This is a romantic suspense with equal parts plot and mystery with romance. While the mystery can take the forefront in a lot of this book, the romance between these two feels just as important.

I love getting to experience both characters and the past that has shaped them to who they are today. Nick has grown up with a normal life knowing safety and love. While Elizabeth has wonky known pain and grief. She’s shut herself off from having a stronger connection with anyone due to it. And while Nick wants her he knows she has to be the one to save herself and take the next step with him. Nick knows just how strong woman from trauma can be as his mother was held captive and forced to give birth to a serial killers baby.

I loooved the plot and how this author tied all of the mystery and events together. I love the ending and how little pieces started to fall together. I had no guesses on how this was going to end and I love every second of it. I was captivated and simply couldn’t put this book down until it was over. This has overlapping characters and mentions of the first book in the standalone duet. I didn’t read the first book yet and did not struggle to get through this at all.

Better than the first one, but still had its faults. I liked that this followed the son from the first book when he was older. It felt like it gave closure to what was left up in the air from the first book. The female main character was also very fleshed out with her own backstory and history. I really liked together and I thought the main murder mystery was intriguing. The connection back to the elements of the first book are honestly where it started to lose me a bit. There was just a lot going on at the end and I don’t like the message that there’s good and bad in all of us and therefore it’s okay to be a kidnapper and abuser and killer. Bit extreme honestly, we don’t need to sympathize with everyone.

Now this is a thriller! My heart was pounding in parts. Mia Sheridan writes both love and thrillers. I am drawn to the thrillers. Her ability to create a character is wonderful. I love some and equally hate some. I loved Reed, Arryn, Ransom, Liza, etc! Reed is such an amazing man! How could you not love him. This book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I will definitely be picking up more by her!

This book was such a great sequel to Where the Blame Lies. Reed Davies grew up to be all the good Josie wanted him to be. I loved this book, it had the perfect mix of getting to see the Josie and Zach but also giving Reed his own story with Liza. Liza was such a great character just like Josie. I like what Zach said, some people were warriors who had that extra fight in them and were bended and scraped up but not broken. Josie and Liza were that. Survivors of horrible crimes. This book had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Great story and I can’t wait to read more of Mia Sheridan!
