Summary: Loren (luh-ren) is a human among a city full of monsters but when human girls along with her friend go missing, she finds herself in unfamiliar company. Darien, the leader of the Devils, agrees to help her and protect her. The secrets start to unravel and they find themselves in the center of it all while trying to solve the mystery and their feelings.

Review: I was in a bit of a slump when I picked this book up and it got me out of it. The book had similar vibes to CC which is 100% my vibe so I instantly fell in love. I found myself not wanting to put it down bc so much was happening and I loved every second. Now, did I understand everything? Probably not 😆 but the vibes were great so I had the best time reading it!

Loren is our human FMC and I liked her. I liked seeing her confidence go from zero to a hundred over the course of the book while finding herself within the Devils care. I found her very relatable! Now I will say, Loren probably blushes more than anyone I have ever read about, but I guess with a tattooed Devil constantly by her side, I don’t blame her 😮‍💨 Darien is the MMC and I loved seeing him evolve over the book. He has a lot of depth to him and I loved seeing him go from stone cold to caring! I loved his banter, care, & nicknames for Loren 🫠 I want to say Loren and Darien are strangers to lovers bc as you gradually get to know them, you get to peel back all their layers and see them find themselves not only individually but with each other too & it was honestly really beautiful and organic 🖤 it’s definitely a slow burn and they get interrupted way too many times 😂 but don’t worry, at the end they get their moment & their spice was great!

I only knocked it down half a star bc sometimes I couldn’t keep every person and place straight bc there were so many 😆 But I will say, anytime the author mentioned a new person/pace, she would give a sentence or two explaining it which helped! There were a few things I predicted & some things I didn’t think were going to happen in the book so the pace was great! The book had everything I love: murder, mystery, action, and romance. If you’re looking for an urban fantasy with the bodyguard trope, found family, and dual POV - COGAM is for you 😈💀🖤

This book....I was hooked from the first sentence, and devoured it in 2 days. I cannot wait to continue this series. I picked it up because a lady i follow on tiktok described it as an adult Mortal Instruments. It's similar in the fact that it has all the monsters (werewolves, vampirea, demons), and people that hunt them, a.k.a. Darkslayers. But that' where the similarities stop i think. The world building was so good and thorough, the characters are all amazing, and it has a slow burn romance that I just ate up. Oh...did I mention the shadowdaddy 😉 and spirit familiars!

This book is LONG, slow, and sometimes redundant.

I wish I read Crescent City after this, because I think it is really evident (if you’ve read both) that CC has worse worldbuilding, and it was unfair to colpare this book to that. I do love an urban fantasy, so this was fun.

Really long, sometimes slow, I would recommend this to people who can enjoy that the way that I can.

I could not put this book down! I loved the world building and the story line. But most of all I loved Darien and his character development.

His growing love for Loren is written like a dream. The only things I didn’t like were that the main focus was on the romantic relationship and not as much on the plot. I also found it hard to believe how quickly Loren healed in the end even though she was covered in bruises and scrapes and almost drowned…I also didn’t understand why the Widow said that she would die if she used her power but then ends up being absolutely fine after having used it.

Wow, just wow,, I swallowed this book over the weekend and I have to say this is my favorite read of the past two years. This story had my heart racing and I am so excited to start the second book tomorrow. The story building is incredible, so is the world building and the fantasy and magic. I am so glad I picked up this gem.

While I really enjoyed some of the world building in this book at times it felt like I was reading horrible fanfic on Wattpad.

It was an entertaining read though!

Um, WOW! This was so, SO GOOD!!! I sincerely hope the author continues this series because I am 100% INVESTED. With unique world building and nonstop action, this book was seriously hard to put down! I even cried, TWICE (why you gotta do Singer like that, huh?)! And the final conflict was so TENSE and HEARTBREAKING I could hardly breathe while reading it. The only reasons this isn’t a 5 star book is because Loren did a couple of annoyingly stupid things that got on my nerves and because the epilogue left me with BIG questions.

This is one of those books that when you turn the last page you want to alter the space time continuum to go back and read it again.

Holy shit I randomly ordered this book off Amazon because I saw one recommendation video with a singular quote. Literally bought this book off of thoughts and vibes alone and I couldn’t be happier.

Loren and Darien CANNOT be beaten, I absolutely adore them. Darien is quite literally the love of my life and I loved seeing their relationship bloom. Loren is just the cutest thing ever and I thought she was so sweet and good for Darien.

And don’t even get me started on the rest of the devils. They are such an amazing found family and they all compliment each other in so many different ways. I love them and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series to see how they all grow.
