Scifi and fantasy collide

I want to give this more of a 3.5 but going higher than lower. Overall I enjoyed this book. Loved the setting and all the emotions Daniel's writing spurred. Some of the fight scenes were a little too drawn out for me but really happy with most of them. Also could use one more editing pass (I did some submitting on kindle, so hopefully that gets to the right place.)

Some good twists in here, for sure! All original expectations were tossed out during, what I assume to be, the scene depicted on the cover. Very diverse cast of characters; I need artwork of Oscar ASAP!!!

Definitely nice this one a read! I'm excited for more stories in this world.

So the low rating is entirely because of my own preferences. The writing is mostly good, I only felt that weird "oh I'm reading a book" detachment from it a few times towards the beginning. The world building is interesting, if perhaps overly complex, and the plot is engaging. It's just... I have this problem with vampires. Most of the time I'm not a fan. I don't find them cool or interesting, I don't often want to read about them
particularly as good guys. I'm especially not a fan of vampire protagonists and the whole craving blood thing and as soon as Taya became a vampire my brain just stopped caring. I saw the foreshadowing and I could see it coming, but I really hoped I was wrong. I was enjoying it up to that point. Sorry, this is definitely a me issue. The ending was action packed, but I no longer cared,
so... Yeah. Not for me.
