I think this is a book kids can really get into.

My mom bought this series for my second grader, but it turned out that my kindergartener was the one who mainlined (listening to) it. The concept was fun, the characters enjoyable. A non-dumbed-down superhero story. Yes, the adults aren't always brilliant, but the generations work together, which I appreciate.

Ordinary Boy is the only person in Superopolis without some sort of super ability (or so he thinks). His idol is the Amazing Indestructo, who regularly defeats the evil Professor Brain-Drain.

Cute, with adventures and situations clearly written for upper elementary school children, with little in jokes for adults who also read the book (nothing naughty, just grown up.

I got it from the library to entice my non-readers to try something others their age have enjoyed. This wasn't up their aisle, but it's certainly okay for others.

This is a Maud Hart Lovelace Division 1 nominee, and I read it aloud at bedtime. We loved this book. It's fun and a little bit different. The illustrations and style add a lot, and my kids thought it was interesting having a city in which everyone has a superpower. This book deals with some surprising ideas such as supply and demand, breach of contract and the underhanded things a hero might do to protect his image. There is a good measure of silliness thrown in as well - the main villain wears a colander on his head, for goodness sake, so you know this book does not take itself too seriously. We are looking forward to reading the next installment in the Extrordinary Adventures of Ordinary Boy!

This is a really cute idea...an entire city full of super heroes, except for Ordinary Boy, who is just a really smart kid. This would be great for some of my lower-level 6th grade boys (or girls!)
