Really enjoyed this, a super fast paced tense read that I got through in mostly 2 days.
A darker and more graphic read than the first in the series, especially the sexual violence so big trigger warnings there.
Both books in the series I've found to be slightly cringey at first with the whole 'im so dark and evil and dangerous', but it definitely tones down once you're reintroduced to the character and the plot gets going. The reading experience will definitely benefit from a lil suspension of disbelief, but then you're in for a good time.
The romance element of this was a surprise but not a bad one. I'm not really a romance person so it didn't add much for me but it was a fun way to explore our main character a bit more. One thing I do have to say about the romance though is it felt very fast for me personally. For someone who's been shut up and isolated for 3 years, she gets attached and let's herself become vulnerable reaaal quick.
I also oddly found the main character a little less likeable in this one. Despite the whole murderous tendencies I actually kinda grew attached to her in the first one, but in this one she just came across a little more bitchy, especially in her interaction with Jamie, the only female character she really interacts with. Didn't really vibe with the girl hate and competitiveness. Really enjoyed getting to know Mike better though.
I really did have fun with this though (not sure 'fun' is the right word when it comes to the difficult to read scenes of sexual violence but yknow what I mean), definitely invested in the plot and the characters, and excited to continue the series.
