I loved this so much! It's just really fun, and I needed something light after that last Maiden Lane book I read.

I was able to predict the villain right when I met the character, and how the rest of that plot might play out but it did not detract from my enjoyment. Paranormal + historical is a great delight. And this book might have my first true favorite werewolf hero. I loved Alexia, naturally.

I need to get my thoughts in order before I can determine how I really feel about this book.

Edit:

For all intents and purposes I enjoyed most of this book. It was witty (to an extent) and well written. What through me off I think is the romance. Yes they were attracted to each other and yes it was palpable but that sort of fizzles out in the last 30% of the book. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the romance (which I did) but if felt rushed. The whole 'let's get married' thing felt sudden and not well executed. I would have enjoyed it more if it was a slow-burn and if the author focused more on developing the plot.

I have started on the second book and it seems to be there will be relationship drama so... I'm also starting to really dislike Connell so I don't know if I will continue with the series.

First, I was turned off by the writing, which was quite poor. Then I somehow got caught up in the story, and decided to stick with it. Then it turned into a bit of a bodice-ripper, which (perhaps foolishly?) I had not signed on for. Hrm.

I can definitely understand this being a 4 or 5 star book for people who enjoy light banter-y bodice rippers. There's just something about that type of sarcastic wittiness that annoys me all out of proportion. The book is absolutely full of anachronisms and trying-too-hard Jane Austinisms for me.

Worth the read, but annoying for me, personally. I feel like such a grinch for saying that. I can understand all the glowing reviews, it just wasn't for me.
