If a collection starts with a defensive foreword about the inclusion of prose stories, citing the fact that "horror writers don't have enough places to publish," I suppose it's only fair to be skeptical. The first prose story in the collection is co-authored by a married couple, and all I could think as I read it was, "Really? It took TWO people to write this garbage?" It could have used a copy editor as well. A couple of the stories were all right, though there are a lot of clunky, terrible turns of phrase, even in the better selections. I picked this up primarily for Ben Templesmith's pieces. They aren't his best work, by any means, but they are the best things in this volume.
