Probably my favorite of the original Dune series. Lots of little (and large) mind manipulations between the Bene Gesserit and the Honored Matres. I loved the mental aspect of this book, but admittedly, it is different than the first couple in the series.

This was an interesting point for the epic to reach. I feel like I understood the happenings of this one more than previous books and liked some of the points that it made. I’ll be interested to see what Frank’s son does with the universe after the fact.

Sigh... finally finished the dune series.... I hated the weird turn to antisemitism?

A more satisfying ending than the great cliffhanger I'd heard about. Except the last few chapters, which leave some dangling threads, this has a very satisfying ending to these last two books, one of the most satisfying of any of the Dune books frankly, thanks to it not skimping out on action. It almost bumped this up to a fourth star.
Unfortunately this book spins its wheels for a looong time, the majority of the book even. It's almost 2 acts rather than 3, with the first being entirely build up. It's all very repetitive sermons and speeches of politics and sociology in a similar way to God Emperor, with some inching forward of narrative threads until the last third or so. The messages feel more transparently coming from Herbert than ever here too.
It's all marvellously written and I enjoyed the technical evolutions of this universe a lot, and it continues to have some of the great characters from Heretics. Such a shame we'll never get a seventh to properly close this series.

It’s my first sci-fi Book series I always had a problem with the series after like the third book it just got too convoluted for me to keep up and just I didn’t have the routine and discipline of reading for five hours as usual as I did with the other fantasy series, so I just couldn’t stomach it anymore.
