Enjoyed this series overall. I thought that it was a little long winded and not sure all the detail was always necessary (like mentioning the types of credit card used in a hotel that was only featured for less than a page. Was that really needed? Little details like that just made this book way longer than it had to be).

But I liked how far the characters had come over the course of the trilogy. The cast of secondary characters are fantastic and I did grow to appreciate Diana and Matthew by the end.

Overall I thought the book was disappointingly anticlimactic but the ending was entirely appropriate for all of the characters. All up I loved the first book, tolerated the second and respected how the trilogy wrapped up in the third.

It’s not the best and most surprising ending but it does tie up all the loose ends.

I’m not sure what I was expecting but after a quite exciting book 2, I thought that this one would be a bit more action packed. But it unfortunately ended up being a lot of pregnancy and then baby talk and Diana and Matthew being unhappy about having to be apart. Not exactly what one expects from a fantasy or a romance book…

It was a bit too long and a bit of a slog in the middle, but the last 200 pages got back on track. Loved the history and genetics elements in these books and I would definitely recommend it for those who are looking for a historical fantasy with vampire, witches and demons. I would compare it to a Buffy the Vampire Slayer mixed with Twilight and Charmed 🤭

I’m sad to see this trilogy come to an end. I think I’m even sadder to see negative reviews on it. Yeah, yeah, I know, there were some flaws.. but I grab it five stars because I enjoyed my time reading it. I love the varied characters. I liked the resolution. My biggest complaint would be how Gallowglass was handled. He’s one of my favorites. I didn’t like his absences or his “fate”.

I was sitting here trying to figure out what I was having such a hard time thinking of how to review this book that I really enjoyed. I decided to read some of the other reviews and it makes a lot of sense now, the weird feeling on things left unresolved.

Let me first and for most state that I really enjoyed this entire series and I was happy with the outcome of the final storyline, I think what's getting me though is that feeling of missing a number of details. First off, for someone who clearly loved Diana, the fact that Gallowglass (my favorite character) gets screwed over in this book by not even being at the twin's christening or making an appearance once the battle with Benjamin is over is absolutely infuriating. Harkness really screwed him over on that. Additionally, I understand that Diana is extremely power and was capable of defeating both Knox and Benjamin, but why didn't we see some type of fight scene between at least one of them? All we got is just some gloating words and then their death. I think both of their deaths were the exactly how I would have pictured it but I don't like the fact that they didn't really fight back at all for how ruthless they are supposed to be. I would have loved to see at least Knox throw a spell here and there that Diana block while she continued with her weaving knots but we didn't get that. We just got Know gloating and then looking scared and then dying.

For me personally, I absolutely loved all the detailed scientific explanations throughout the entire series whether it be genetics, evolution or general scientific history and their important figures. It's one of the things that really engrossed me most in this series. With that being said, I can easily see how this would be a major turnoff for people who aren't interested in this like us fellow science nerds.

Going back to the wishing for more details, I wish we didn't just get a quick resolve with all the Congregation politics. With how much this series went into discussing the importance of how political action weighed into any of their decisions, it would have been great to see more of what happened. I do look forward to reading the companion books that go into Marcus becoming a vampire and also the one providing more details on this world. Maybe I'll get the answers I'm looking for
