I have food allergies, and because of that, the way Simon died was very disturbing to me, not to mention unrealistic (people having an allergic reaction do not collapse ten seconds later!). This was insensitive and incredibly messed up.
That being said, everything else about the book was very well done. The characters were likable, well developed, and unique, and the twists were very clever and kept me hooked.
Still, it was difficult to get past the allergy issue. I really wish the author had chosen to use poison instead.

Romance: 2/5 wrinkly bell peppers

I don’t have any strong feelings about his book. I thought the comradery between the four of them was cute, and I was able to read it relatively fast, but I just wanted to know who did it.

It was written through the four’s perspectives as they deal with the things that have been told about them on a vlog post before the person in charge of their vlog suddenly keels over in the detention they were all forced to attend under mysterious circumstances.

I was semi-bored, semi-entertained
I don’t think I’ll be continuing to read the series.

The whodunnit was pretty easy to pick out, even though the author tried to distract with various teaser phrases.

I kind of felt like it would turn out with Simon having been the one to unalive himself the whole time, but I almost didn’t want it to be like that. I do admit the twist with Janae and Jake got me, I think that was neatly done—did I want the twist to happen in the last 60 pages or so? no. Do I love that Jake ended up getting arrested and jailed? absolutely.

I already deal with enough of people assuming I'm/people are grateful to be disabled because we're lazy in real life, and enough demonization of "scary" mental illnesses. I don't need to deal with that in this book 🙄

Oh boy, this was a quick, but dissappointing read. The way mental illness and suicide is handled in this book is beyond bad. Take almost everything problematic from "13 reasons why" and mix it with a breakfast club type cast and you got this book. Sad to see that authors still handle triggering topics like suicide in such awful, careless ways. Extremely graphic and triggering. On top of that, the ending and reveal were rather unsatisfying.
2.5 stars and those are purely for my love for Nate's character.

Here's my entire list of content warnings:
- sexism, slut-shaming, bullying, homophobia
- drugs, addiction
- discussions of cancer
- suicide discussed (detailed), extremely triggering; ableism, saneism, demonizing mental illnesses
- parental neglect
- possible misgendering
- school shootings discussed
- controlling boyfriends
- forced coming out as LGBTQ+
