in all honesty i just read the sparknotes summary for the last two parts. how can such a short book be this much of a drag...?

might give it another go when i get round to studying it but for now i don't feel like torturing myself

adding an extra star just as a reward to myself for making it through tbh

what a remarkable waste of time. just because a piece of writing is skilled or introspective and old enough to be considered a classic does not mean that its ideas are, or have ever been, of quality. the literature itself even when you discard the substandard ideas lack in anything that make it worthwhile to read. there are some enjoyable lines sprinkled throughout, which is the only reason I'd give this even a ¼ star rating, but they are few and far between.

very symbolic and stuff. i wasn’t in the mood to read it the entire time i was reading it but if i was in the mood to read it it would’ve been really interesting

I appreciated how complex it was for a novella, but it was sort of hard to follow sometimes.

I really didn’t like Heart of Darkness. It was hard for me to stay focused while reading and keeping up with what was going on. Marlow is definitely not a great storyteller. I watched a video from Sparknotes that explained everything and this book makes more sense now. It was hard for me to stay committed and finish it, but I’m so glad that I’m done with this book.
