Beyond the Western Deep is a well-written story with excellent worldbuilding and vibrant, layered characters-- including the antagonists. The Redwall influence is definitive, however Beyond the Western Deep is clearly its own story. The story twists and subverts many fantasy tropes and the artist has an astounding eye for detail in her rendering of the world. There's some fantasy violence and mild blood.

While Alex Kain has not been published in the literary world, readers who have tastes influenced by the [b: Redwall|7996|Redwall (Redwall, #1)|Brian Jacques|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327877368s/7996.jpg|486980] series by [a: Brian Jacques|5329|Brian Jacques|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1309635011p2/5329.jpg] may be familiar with his writing in the video games Dust: An Elysian Tail and Armello.

For those of you unaware, this is a webcomic that's posted online for free with an update every weekend. On the homesite, westerndeep.net, the story has completed chapter two. There's also worldbuilding information on every page.
