I was surprised to like this book.  I decided to read it as part of the challenge and I basically just chose it because of the location.  It turned out I liked the main character, though none of the others.

I had mixed feelings about the storyline.  The main character is upset because she wants to be the wife, but like it or not, she is the second woman, the one the man did not want.  The man is a coward.  He should have told his mother to pound sand, but instead he cheated on the first woman with the second one.  The whole thing is manipulative and cowardly.  The first woman should have left him and taken him to the cleaners.

I am really excited to read more by this author. I felt like the narrator made the audiobook version of Afi more whiny and pleading than I think I would have read her, so I might have to read this over again. But I really loved entering into the Ghanaian culture, which with I'm so unfamiliar.

I picked this book because I saw it was narrated by the same narrator of another book I enjoyed. I was on the waiting list for a few weeks at my library, so this made me think this book had a lot of hype. In reality, it was very uncomfortable to listen to. There was a ton of gaslighting of the main character, to an unrelenting level sometimes. And the ending
was very anti-climactic to me. I am glad that the protagonist learned to value herself and decided to end the relationship, but it was just uncomfortable to me.
