Kind of DNF. I skimmed the last half of the book.
The texting took away one star.
The constant flash a is to when she was 5 took away a star.
The complete lack of personality from the main female character fool away a star.
To be honest the only reason I’m giving it two stars is because I’m a sucker for age gap romances but this was so long and repetitive. It was just annoying. Usually I can make a lot of excuses for a good spicey story if there’s a bad plot but to be honest with the contact reminders of him basically raising her all the chemistry would evaporate.

This was almost a 3 star read but I had to bump it down to a 2 star. I think the writing was really good and I enjoyed it.
Now I went into this knowing it was an age gap romance and I have absolutely no problems with age gap romances even when they are freshly 18 but this one was just so problematic. I also have no problem with the father’s best friend trope, I actually really like that trope but did not like the way this was done.
Their relationship literally started when she was SEVENTEEN 😳 I don’t like they did that.
I don’t like how it kept going from past to present, it was honestly really gross, like the author was trying to show us that they were always soulmates even though Kenzi was a literal toddler and he was in his twenties. She could’ve done a better job with that.
Also the defining part of me rating this 2 stars instead of 3 is when Kenzi dad is about to accept them as a couple, he gives a photo album to Tor our MMC and told him based on the pictures, they looked like they were always meant to be together. Tor even says “We were always together. Almost always touching in some little innocent, but caring, way. Constantly drawn to each other without even realizing it. Even though I always felt it, actually seeing it captured in photos is something entirely different.” That is such a disgusting thing to say especially when she was a CHILD and he was an ADULT.

I wanted to like this book so much but the one thing I can’t take too much of when reading a taboo novel is when the MC’s moral compass’ flip flop back n’ forth over their level of comfortability with the relationship. It’s not completely out of place in the plot, but it does drag on a bit and it causes quite a bit of meaningless drama that I could have done without.

3.5 stars, enjoyable but not mindblowing
I quite liked this, although I think my younger self would have digger this a lot more. I think the age dilemma is handled pretty well, but the attraction switch remains questionable. Nevertheless, I liked the development of characters and how the two lovebirds treated one another

a good taboo read
First and only warning, do not read if you don’t like taboo.
This book had me in tears more than once, maybe it’s my deep down daddy issues. Unsure.
Regardless, carian cole knows how to write taboo.

Torn was a sweet romance. It had some endearing parts to it. But the pessimist inside me can't let go of the annoying things.
First, I disliked that ending. Not the epilogue, but the part before. Almost bumped the rating down to a 2 because of it.
Second, those page fillers. AAARRRGGG! If you've read the synopsis of this book get used to it. Because that's the glue that holds the pages to this book.
Last, overkill on "we need to talk" and needing time apart. The book was just too long.
During 62%-70% of this book I was going to rate it a 4. And the final letter was very endearing. I think the majority of contemporary romances are not for me. But I keep trying!
UPDATE Rating down to 2 stars. I really, really, really hated that ending.
