This memoir was so honest & vulnerable. Jessica Simpson walks us through the joys and the trauma that she has lived through. As someone who grew up knowing who Jessica Simpson was, but not consuming any of her content, this memoir filled in the gaps for me. I spent the last several days listening to this on audiobook and then sharing the fun facts I was learning with everyone around me. Also if I didn’t already think John Mayer was horrible, this confirmed it for me.

First book club read of the year!

Considering I only read celebrity memoirs when I really like the celebrity and I couldn’t name a Jessica Simpson song if my life depended on it, I was definitely not the intended audience for this book. Therefore, it wasn’t surprising when I couldn’t connect with it at all.

Jessica laid out her life and the struggle of being in the public’s eye through divorce, addiction, weight gain/loss, and fame. To me it felt forced, like Jessica wanted to resonate with the reader, but not really. If you’re a Jessica Simpson fan or grew up listening to her music, this might be the book for you. For me, I finished it for the sake of book club.

Open Book was the perfect title for this book as it was guided by the actual journals Jessica wrote throughout her life, and it’s just like a personal journal with no details spared.

There’s a rawness and vulnerability that I think most women can relate to. The struggles Jessica shares are real and all too common.

Don’t underestimate this memoir, there’s far more to it than you may expect.
