I found myself super underwhelmed with this book. There a huge lead up to Wendy having to kill her father and save everyone and the whole thing was over in the blind of an eye. She just walked in and it was over. I was baffled that it finished the way it did. I mean, it made sense but she just kept saying oh I'm so strong because of my parents and never showed it and then her 'specialness' comes out to play because something happens and it's all over.

Really I felt like this book was more Romance than anything. We barely see paranormal elements besides mentions and a snowball fight for the large majority of the book, the rest is her getting married and moving on from Finn to Loki. Don't get me wrong, I love Romance and I always loved Loki, but maybe it just became more apparent to me in this book how silly Wendy was. She jumps into things, does whatever she wants and weirdly let's her community talk down to her and relies on her friends to shut them up? She's always on about how she's the future queen and doesn't say anything when one of thems saying they'd be better off if she left or died? WHAAAAT? Nice person or not I'd be firing her so fast. Banish her and give her job to someone else! Some guys creeping on you so you let it happen and have Tove intervene? If you can't fix it get your mother to! My lord it was frustrating.

Now even though it's a 2 star for me, it wasn't a bad book and I get why people love it, I just think Wendy really pushed me to the edge, I started hating Finn being annoying, the final battle or really any scene where Wendy trotted off to visit her dad, and I wasn't a fan of the epilogue, where it felt like the end of the movie and they just write a little paragraph about everyone's accomplishments.

I didn't read the extra novella at the end, I started and ended up just putting it away because I didn't really care for that part of their lives.

Oh my, god! This is the best fairy-tale like book I've ever read! Believe me, I'm stealing my sleep to finish this book even though I don't want it to finish this fast but I did. It was gooood! The ending was perfect and I couldn't bring myself to stop loving Loki. He's a perfect boyfriend, husband and a father! If I ever meet one like him, I wouldn't hesitate to marry him! HE IS PERFECT! The way Amanda describe him makes me go all gooey. Ahhh I love him! Anyway, the story is good but though sometimes I already see it coming so it doesn't surprise me but it's good. Good book, good book! :)

OMG!!!! Loved this book! Hocking makes this book so interesting. Spontaneous and Romantic. Showing how a girl can change! Wow, and when I say spontaneous I mean it! I loved this book, but was so dissapointed too! Won't say why, because I don't wanna spoil it. But, to describe this book in one word, AMAZING!

I'm sorry, but no.

I was tempted to give this two stars for Loki [although I don't even KNOW why he liked the MC; she was so boring!!] and maybe Matt, but the whole thing was just so.... soooo.... dull. It was like the first draft of a story with the basic plot points, but very little detail or emotion. Most of the time while I read this, I felt absolutely nothing, and my mind would wander. I had to force myself to pay a modicum of concentration, but I still skipped paragraphs off and on because they were pointless or because I JUST DIDN'T CARE.

I wanted o finish this trilogy, and, ok, I wanted to see how it turned out exactly in the end, but I read this more through force of will than any amount of interest.
The ending especially was disappointing. The epilogue was ok, but I mean the final battle... if battle is what you call it. There was no nervousness or anxiety.... The entire thing was, like, two short chapters, and I'm telling you, I rolled my eyes and sighed from boredom multiple times in those final pages. Again, I felt nothing, and the result was... nothing special. There was no secret to victory, and there wasn't even a semblance of actual battle.
How many ways can I tell you "THIS WAS SO DULL!!"?

I'm sorry but no, my bindup copy of this series is going in the used bookstore box.

Review:

After reading the second book, I’d decided that this series had potential, so long as the last book was pretty damn good. Thankfully, this completely delivered.

This book sees Wendy, unlikely Trylle (or troll) princess become unlikely Trylle Queen, and unlikely Wife, to an equally unlikely husband. She has to deal with her Wedding, her Coronation, and getting her nation to trust her, all whilst a hostile troll faction led by Wendy’s own father, the Vittra, threaten (and carry out) attacks.

Yes, this was exactly as dramatic as it sounds. In this book, I actually liked Wendy. She finally realizes what an ass Finn’s been, she grows up a heck of a lot, and does what any Princess/Queen would do, and finds herself putting her own needs second to those of her Kingdom and her people.

I have to admit, I loved the love story aspect of this, and I’d been kind of secretly hoping it would go this way – for me, the guy Wendy ends up with is the only one I could properly see her with having read the second book. The book also ended on a very unexpected note, and I loved that about it. There was also a good wrap-up, with all loose ends tied, and I was glad for it.

I’m going to admit, I became more immersed in the world Amanda Hocking has created than I originally thought I would, and given the movie rights have already been sold, I can (hopefully) look forward to seeing this one on the big screen!

Definitely enjoyable, and even for those who didn’t enjoy the second book so much, I felt this one was a lot better and a good ending to the trilogy.

Overall rating: 4/5
Writing: 4/5
Originality: 4/5
Characters: 4/5
My Enjoyment: 4/5

Review first published on my blog The Fictional Reader

For my last birthday, I received a gift card for a chain of bookstores we have in Belgium. With said giftcard, I bought a bindup of the Trylle trilogy by Amanda Hocking. I’d read her Kanin Chronicles earlier, and really enjoyed them. So I decided I wanted to read her earlier trilogy – even though I already knew the fate of one person from reading the Kanin Chronicles. Because I read all of these books immediately following one another, it’s hard for me to distinguish the events per book. So I decided to just make a general review on the entire trilogy. Don’t worry, there will be no spoilers.

This YA fantasy would just be described as fun, and quick reads. The story revolves around Wendy, who discovers that she is a changeling. She was placed with a human family after her birth, but in fact she’s a Trylle. The Trylle are a tribe of trolls. However, her human mother has always felt like she was not her child, and tried to kill her. Then Wendy finds out that she was right. She’s taken to the Trylle capital to join her “real” family. However, having grown up with a family and brother, she considers them as her real family, of course. Things happen, trolls get attacked, and so forth.

Like I said, these were really quick reads. It’s the kind of addictive writing that keeps you reading. It’s the kind of series you can easily binge-read. That’s saying something coming from me, because I don’t often do that. I find that fantasy series are hard to binge-read as they tend to be very heavy read. This doesn’t feel like that at all. It’s a series that you can breeze through.

I love the fact that we got to see the life of a whole different tribe. Like I said, I read the Kanin Chronicles before this trilogy so I’d gotten a fair glimpse into the life of the Kanin. Their society is very different than that of the Trylle, so it was fun to see the differences between the tribes. The caste systems are quite different. In this trilogy, we follow Wendy who is a changeling. But in the Kanin trilogy, we follow a tracker. I also liked learning about the magic skills the Trylle possess.

I liked how Wendy grew from a teenager into a strong and responsible woman. Yes, in the beginning she made stupid decisions which were quite selfish. But show me one teenager who doesn’t… I feel like she really grew, accepting responsibilities she’s far from happy with. I have to be honest and say that in the beginning of the love interest-romances, I wasn’t really feeling them. After a while, I started to ship it, but at first I wasn’t that into it.

Overall, I’d highly recommend this YA fantasy trilogy. They are fun and quick reads, and I think the main character grew a lot. If you want to start reading YA fantasy, I think this is a nice place to start. Yes, it does have quite a lot of romance, so if you don’t like that this book won’t be for you.

I wanted to know how the story ended and so I read this one too. Quite predictable but still an enjoyable enough read.
