Two stars not to discredit or discount the author’s experience, I just found this didn’t hold my interest.

I don’t like giving memoirs less than 4 stars so I’m not going to rate this one. This book just wasn’t for me. There were parts of this book that were incredibly moving, and, of course, it is incredibly impressive and brave to be in recovery and the write about that journey. However, I was very frustrated by how the author treated some people in this book, especially her lawyer. I am definitely biased, but I thought it was somewhat unreasonable for the author to vilify her lawyer when she was simply trying create an aggressive strategy for the EXTREMELY bad odds that the author would retain some custody of her kids. I will admit that the lawyer was likely not the best fit for the author and oftentimes came off somewhat pushy which is not great, but the author really did not seem to understand how bad her legal situation was. Like she broke the law by buying illicit Ambien and having mailed through the us postal service. That is a federal crime. She is lucky not to have gone to jail! I don’t want to keep ranting so I will end by saying that the author is very lucky that her ex husband was as amenable as he was otherwise she would have been in a ton of trouble.

One of the best (if not THE best) addiction memoirs of modern time. Cathcart can WRITE and knows how to tell a story. I was sucked in to her world of Ambien addiction and loved following along on her road to recovery. I really hope to see more from her in the future.
