This book was a thrilling joyride right out of the gate. The intensity and page-turning intrigue continued to build to the very end. I found the character selection and development to be superb. Not too many characters, but not lacking either. This being the second installment in the Lincoln Rhyme series, I especially appreciated how several of the key characters from the first book, The Bone Collector, were further built upon in this book. A few more details, a modicum of additional back-story, and further development of the interactions amongst the characters.

The persistent chess match between protagonist and antagonist was another great joy of this book as was the final twist as to the real identify of the primary antagonist.

This book solidified my interest in continuing with the series... I now look forward to Lincoln the worm's next great saga.

I am always skeptical when reading a series of books as it always worries me that the books will get worse in quality as you go threw the series.

However with the Linkon Rhyme novels this does not seem lightly.

This was a fantastic novel full of twists and turnes all the way threw, it had me guessing the whole time and I enjoyed every moment of it. This was a fantastic story and it kept me interested the whole way threw. I even found that I was enjoying it that much I had to spread the reading over a few days as I wanted to make the book last due to enjoying it so much. I found it to exciting to read all the way threw without stopping and I am looking forward to the rest of this series and more of this author's other works. I love the way the characters are developing in the series aspecialy fred delray the FBI agent, he had me laughing a lot as his character is funny and the way he can just become whoever he wants to be. Jeffrey Harding the Narrator of the book was also fantastic, this kind of book really suits him and he puts on different voices for each character. This book deserves the five stars i have given it.

Interesting twist, but really put off by Lincoln Rhyme, I suppose I wanted someone more like the TV series. Well, my bad.

DNF
It may be the second book in the series and I didn't read the first but my God! There's only so much explanation of procedure a girl can take.
And how many times must the dancer say the word worm? Like literally!
Everyone to this dude is a worm. And he lets us know. Never lets us forget how much humans are worms.

3.5 but I'll round up because I do like this author.

Once again, the plot of this book kept me intrigued and turning the pages. I really enjoy Rhyme's antics and his relationship with Amelia.

I will say, however, I got really bogged down by all of the airplane and flying lingo. I got to a point where whenever there was a flying scene, I ended up skimming most of it because I didn't understand what was going on.

The twist was definitely a WHAT HOW kind of twist, so I liked that!

This series is fun, I'm excited to continue it.

I liked this book better than books 3 & 4 in this series. Not too much character building here--as if Deaver wasn't sure what to do with them. A convoluted plot and long conversations/internal monologues that seemed repetitive and slowed the pacing.

  • Strong character development? It's complicated
