Wish I read this in high school. Great example of being yourself in any relationship- friendship or dating- and not what you think the good girl would do.

I read this for #LALATHON 2018 and chose this book because this is outside my comfort zone... and now I know why I don't read these types of books.
SpoilerNothing against anyone who reads cliche romance novels... I just can't understand a female main character not wanting a boyfriend to having one in 150 pages. I was hoping the romance would be a side-plot so Dimple could discover herself and win the competition but it was... just a lot of teenage angst and hormones.

i'm not exactly sure when or why this book gained such a cult following, but as an Indian immigrant myself I am always looking for books with protagonists similar to myself. When i found this in the Delhi airport a few years ago, I was looking for something to read on a road trip and thought to myself it couldn't be that bad. The description seemed promising, oh boy was I wrong. This book is incredibly juvenile, even by YA standards; the writing is choppy, the characters are half developed and the gaping plot holes made me wish I was reading something else entirely. This book follows the formulaic stream Bollywood films follow and it reminds me that films are better as films and not adapted into books. Perhaps the only thing I enjoyed about this book was the representation of an Indian immigrant family, and maybe a few scenes that made my inner teenage girl squeal. Hence the two stars.

This was such a cute story to read. I fell in love with Rishi's goofiness and Dimple's sassiness. The representation and diversity in the book are AMAZING. I literally laughed out loud at a lot of the scenes and enjoyed the humor tremendously. However, as much as I could relate to Dimple in terms of striving towards your educational/career goals, I became very frustrated with how she approached certain issues with Rishi. Overall, I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for fun summer themed contemporary novel!

I don't know why this book has so many negative reviews. I honestly thought it was sweet and cute! What you would ideally expect in any young adult novel.

I enjoyed the characters, Rishi was quite the heartthrob, and Dimple was not perfect, which is always nice to have a character with their own flaws.
It was also a fast-paced book and probably something I shouldn't have started around midterm time because I ended up reading it, rather than studying.

This book was a little infuriating. To be focused on a female coder but barely mention coding and I stress focus largely on a silly dance contest and young dumb love is ridiculous. Rishi was completely unbelievable as a character and the love story between Rishi and Dimple is rushed and under developed and hard to connect with.

This book was so hyped and I was so excited to read it. Unfortunately it fell flat for me. The romance felt rushed in the first half, then we send the second half of the book all over the place. There were some things I enjoyed, but overall it didn't live up to the hype for me.
