4.5 stars. The romance in this worked so well for me.
SpoilerIt was fairly obvious that Adam had had feelings for her back when he first met her but just moved too slowly and then Zoe meeting Josh and starting to date him made Adam retreat, but it made sense why Zoe wouldn’t realize what had happened since he never showed any signs of being into her.
I really loved how even though things were distant between them at the start, Adam was really the only one who had any idea of what Zoe was going through, so there was as reason for them to start reconnecting. I thought the pacing of this was really good — a lot of time passes over the course of the story, which it needs to before anything can happen between them considering Zoe’s husband just died (although a couple of the time-jumps at the beginning did feel a little abrupt to me). I liked the slow development of them reconstructing their friendship and then Zoe realizing she’s starting to be attracted to Adam and have feelings for him. And everything between Adam and Logan was really cute (Uncle Lala!). And the epilogue was really great. So yeah, I just really enjoyed this!

I just finished this story and have to say I rather enjoyed it.
It's a slow burn, but for good reason.
The relationship that builds between these two has a few obstacles, I guess you could say, that they need to manage properly.
I like Zoe. I feel that she acted how many would after the death of a loved one. And Adam, thought sometimes i feel he could have encouraged more, he did right by her too.
Very happy I found this sweet story.

I'm continuing my new to me authors with Noelle Adams. I don't typically read third person, but this book was calling to me. Bittersweet was a sweet and emotional story that made me swoon and tear up.

I really think after this one I’ve realized as much as I like Claire Kent, Noelle Adams just isn’t for me. The writing, the way the romance is written, the strangely vague sex scenes that involve a lot of lying on one another and “intimate stroking”… In this one in particular I wasn’t a huge fan of the hero, who talks about his promise to his cousin to take care of his widow and son even after the hero is already friends with the heroine (why bring patriarchal protection shit into it?) and who continually gets moody and withdrawn instead of just talking to her. (Or shaming the way she’s dressing to go out with her friends instead of saying he’s threatened by the idea of her going out to meet someone new because he’s romantically interested in her.) Stuff like that.

This one was sweet and sad. Noelle Adams did a great job showing the roller coaster of grief, and as a reader I was so invested in the characters as they had to move forward with their lives. Though Zoe was pretty fortunate that Josh had been able to provide for them enabling her to stay home with their son for a while after his death, I still thought one of the most interesting parts of the book was where she had to decide what to do with his company to preserve it for their son. A nice read with a sweet ending!
