i mean, the novelization is not magic. it won't change anything you didn't fundamentally like at first in the film, but it will explain it. everything else lies on whether that explanation is good enough for you. but, if you're anything like me, and you thought the pacing and lack of answers in the film were too much to ignore and took you out of it, then you might be able to enjoy the book; and, perhaps, you might take the first steps to appreciate the rise of skywalker for what it is and not hate it for what it wasn’t.

Given how much of a train wreck the movie - and the entire trilogy - has been, this novelisation was needed. It adds to the lore, yes, but it explains 90% of the movie that should have been explained in the movie.

I really liked the extra bits and pieces I found here: obviously, an inside view of Rey; so many friendships that were neglected on-screen lord knows why; the novel managed to tie up some ends, albeit very loosely.

It was an enjoyable novel, and Rae Carson really said REYLO RIGHTS. Still not a big fan of the "gratitute" part. If you've read it you know what I mean.

Wow, this was a great book! I absolutely loved getting some glimpses of Leia's training! The sibling rivalry between then was so funning to read. Just imagining Luke comparing every thing to what he did on Dagoba! Ha.

There were also so many moments in this novelisation that just broke my heart. This book puts so much more meaning into a story that I already know so SO well. I am so glad I read it and really recommend picking this one up.

I look for the novelizations to fill in some story, thought and emotional gaps that can't be fully portrayed on the screen. This was a pretty satisfying novel, on those terms.

This book is bad and I don't even know if I have the energy to review it right now. If you hated the movie like I did, dont expect this book to make it better.

Everyone is out of character, the pacing feels just as much like a trainwreck here as it does in the movie, the writing is at times childish and always, ALWAYS lifeless, even the reylo scenes are incredibly stale for about 70% of the book till you get to the end.

If you're looking for a great novelization, just read The Last Jedi.

This added some more lore to the movie, making me appreciate it more than I originally did. I do like that it shifted prospectives without feeling overbearing.

Did I cry? Absolutely
Does that mean that this book makes up for the movie? No not at all.
Yes the book is very interesting and has some added scenes and dialogue that are really quite sweet. However, I don’t know why I was hoping that the book would give me some closure and it really didn’t. It answered some questions but not all and that is where this book fails (in the same way the movie did).
Despite this, the writing was great. I had never read from Rae Carson before but this was an exceptional read and a really well put together novelization.
