The story moves quickly for us readers and still beautifully highlights the slow and painful journey through grief back to joy.

Just finished reading this. Tbh I honestly planned to give this 1 star, because it was so slow and boring in the beginning. It got better in the end. The thing is I'm "team Sophie" and you can tell me otherwise but I wasn't taking things until the end until Sophie did. For me Nat was so important than anyone who comes after. I know it's selfish, but I don't want to move on so quickly. Yes please move on and live your life as you want. But grief for a little while. So it doesn't feel like you completely forgot about the past.

My first Audible Original listen
Lots of family drama, perfect for the holiday season. Was funny and sweet but will pull at your heartstrings too. This family goes through so many ups and downs in such a short story.
About halfway through I started to get annoyed with the main character Sophie. To me she felt judgy and selfish, and like she forgot other people have lives and feelings too. But by the end I was so happy I listened to this novella, it was a perfect story for thanksgiving weekend.

At first I wasn't so sure with the very heavy topic this book started off on, but eventually I realized the story exuded more positivity than I initially thought. This story plays with grief, how it alters a family dynamic, and how to be ok with such change no matter how long it might take. The main character was undeniably unlikable, but her actions were realistic and understandable. I loved listening to her journey full of pain and, eventually, acceptance of her new and less than ideal situation.

All in all I'd recommend for people to listen to this short but (bitter)sweet novella, with caution for heavy topics that may be sensitive to some. This is perfect especially during the holidays!

TW: death of a loved one, terminal illness, grief
