You need quite a few chapters to get into it (the narrator is quite immature) but once the plot is unfolding you ll get hooked. Idk why exactly but I feel like the vibes are similar to the ones of Percy Jackson if you ve read that as a teen.

The world-building is interesting. However, I really didn’t enjoy this book overall because of the way abuse is handled. I don’t care how physically attractive someone is: there is nothing sexy about abuse. And trauma is neither sexy nor an excuse for abuse.

I was entranced by this book. 
My critiques are: 
1. the plot only started up in the last half of the book. the first half was mostly character introduction and worldbuilding.
2. the bully to lovers trope is a slippery slope, and i really hope black will continue to pull it off well. 
3. taryn was an odd character to me. her motivations were questionable and out of nowhere, despite them being twins and raised together...you'd think their motives would be fairly similar. 
Overall I really loved the dialogue and character writing.

glad to know what this book was finally about (since it was so popular when it came out) - which was nothing really... it had a bad ratio of character thoughts to plot (not really good world building either). the main problem was obvious but i liked the twist at the end. it is just not that amazing tbh.
