Non-spoiler bit: The book is great. If you like Holly Black's other fae books then you will like this. If you haven't read anything by Holly Black, I would recommend starting with the Modern Faerie Tales series, because it chronologically happens before this series does.

expect betrayal, trying to figure out what's going to happen next only to be wrong cause the book sets up for multiple unexpected plot twists. Enemies to lovers trope is present. Some of the characters are just down right evil, but well written. In terms of diversity, there isn't much in the way of POC representation, but there is LGBT+ rep, and the folk are very diverse and you can definitely find yourself in the characters regardless of their appearance.

This one sucked me in quite quickly. Didn’t know which way things were going to go. It was great to have a heroine who was able to think on her feet and also scheme and plan. Her moral grey-ness was also handled well, especially around survival vs acceptance of oppression.

This book was wonderful. It was filled with politics and intrigue, love and hate, and, most importantly, magic and faeries. Did this book live up to the hype? Sort of. Am I excited to read the rest of the series? Yes. The book was very well written and had some master foreshadowing.

An adventurous book with suspense and unsuspecting plot twists. It personally took a little bit to get into however after the first 1/4 of the book, it was brilliantly absorbing and an easy, fun read.

Jude is a sort of anti-hero. She has the best intentions but will go to dark lengths to get what she wants which i really enjoyed. Love a character with gray morals. A bit of fey court intrigue, kinda feels like it’s really just setting up for the next book.

⚠️SLIGHT SPOILERS⚠️

Rich with a good plot, amazingly written characters, and the beginnings of a steamy romance. I only wish Taryn and Jude’s relationship could’ve been explored better, and that Taryn hadn’t sold her out. I did NOT expect Jude and Cardan to kiss in this book (not that I didn’t want it, but we haven’t crossed over to lovers yet). Overall, an amazing experience. 9/10.
