The plot was really good. I thought that the characters could have been a little more developed. The ending felt a bit rushed to me. Overall it was pretty good though.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I expected a silly little tale of secret fairies, but was immediately drawn in by Brigit and Adam. It was sad, sweet, and had just the right amount of heat to be a page turner. I devoured the whole thing in two days.

The premise sounds great. The first moments are great. But then a whole different plot unraveled. After spending 1/4 of the book reading about two characters lusting after each other, I got bored. When was the fairy world going to come back? It seemed from the one sister there was urgency as she sent out her "coded message," but then the story flatlines. I wanted more hints of this world besides a painting. I decided to try something else for now. Maybe I'll come back to it, but I do not feel drawn to continue reading unfortunately.

I really wish Goodreads would add a half star option. This book for me wasn't really a two star book but it wasn't a three star book either. I've heard that this was Maggie Shayne's first book (which explains why it's being offered as a free book through Smashbooks). It's okay. Not great, not awful, just okay. I haven't read any of her other books so I can't compare, but I know people who love her stuff and so I'm guessing that like any good author, her work has grown since writing her first book. I certainly hope that's the case.

This one was just really slow. Downright exhaustingly slow at times. But I still managed to care about the characters and wanted to know what was going to happen to them, so I kept reading. Sadly though, when the book was just getting good and it looked like there were 100 pages left to read, the book ended with a horribly quick finale that was ridiculously rushed. (Haha... Rush pun not intended.) Then there were 100 pages of another book to tease readers with. I read those pages too and have no desire to seek out that book. I might be interested however in checking out the next book in this series. Maybe.

The premise of this book was fantastic; fairy twins who grow up in the mortal world and need to wait for the right moment to return to the fairy realm. Unfortunately the character's fell flat. The so-called strong female fairy characters behaved like they were teens, maybe even preteens, instead of adults. I understand that the twins grew up in less than ideal circumstances but their backgrounds should have meant that they had at least a little common sense.

And it really bothered me how often the main character's thoughts included "slut shaming" of herself. Every time this adult woman had a dirty dream or thought of a man in sexual terms or even thought about being free and playing in the rain she had the same thoughts. "Why is this wanton woman controlling me? It's not right! I'm a horrible person!" That would have been okay if that's how the character started out and then she evolved but right up to the end she kept thinking poorly of herself. It just rubbed me the wrong way that the book portrayed female fairies as being strong, albeit manipulative women, and yeah there was a whole lot of manipulation but hardly any strength.

OK, I totally fell for it...I honestly believed they were going to be parted, and was crying and crying in the middle of the Miami airport. I think it's b/c I knew it was a series, but didn't know what kind of series it was, so figured maybe the happy ending would be in another book later on. Either way, so glad Bridget and Adam could be together....will definitely be looking for the next books in the series.

An interesting concept

There were some really cool moments in this book. I love it when fairy tales come to life. But there were some cheesy moments too. and the quicklime POV changes confused me.

I liked this book, but was disappointed by the ending. That is the reason for only three stars.
