Read this one when it was released in 1998. None the less I remembered it being good, but since I was on a Trek/wars kick I decided to give this one another spin. It's sequel to the episode of the OG trek that Roddenberry intended to spin off into a show that was something like Quantum Leap.

Too bad that spin off didn't happen. Cox does a great job with the pacing and the characters giving it an old school trek feel. Spock has a killer scene in command during a space battle with a cloaked Romulan ship.

Back to a Star Trek book. Not sure when the last time was I read one of these. This one has been on my read list for years just waiting for a Star Trek phase.
It was certainly worth the wait. Getting Kirk and company back together with Gary Seven for another time bending adventure was fun to read. The author has a good grasp on writing the standard characters so well you can hear their voices and see their mannerisms while reading the text.
If you love Star Trek and love when they tie into previous episodes then you should love this one.

Good storyline, good characterization, good action. I love Roberta which is why I was excited to read this and I'm glad she had stuff to do in this novel. There were like two slip ups where a character talks about Stormtroopers and Kirk remarks about his son David growing up (he doesn't know he exists yet?).

An average Trek romp, marred by the author trying too hard to drop “clever” references to other Trek and pop culture events, and (worse) using a PNW indigenous people’s name for the name of a planet (Duwamish).

Very, very good. Cox is one of the better Trek writers, and Gary Seven is one of the better supporting characters over the years. This coupled with the Khan trilogy are some of Cox's best work. This is among my top recommendations if you're a Trek fan.
