I am honestly so surprised this book is getting such high ratings. The whole relationship is just so abusive and toxic. Physical abuse aside, the emotional manipulation of the fmc by making her feel guilty for 'betraying' Wrath was so irritating. If anything, he was the one who betrayed her by keeping information from her, trying to take away her autonomy, and then going after her loved ones. He said she broke her promise, but you can't make promises when key information is withheld from you. Even legally, promises and contracts made in those situations hold no ground. And he definitely knew she wouldn't have made the promise if she was fully informed about the situation, which was very clear by how many times he made her repeat the promise and then would tell her to remember her words later.. like ew. And then he had the audacity to be mad and hurt and make himself out to be the victim of betrayal in the end. Like what???
And the fmc is still in love with him and is believing all this garbage about her betrayal and feeling guilty about it. I was so disgusted by the whole dynamic. Why are we romanticising this very real and horrible form of abuse? I was hoping in the next book she snaps out of it and kills him, but it looks like he has a pretty pathetic redemption arc and they end up together. That's disappointing. I will stop reading here.
