I’ve come to terms with the fact that I really only care about Yen (for now) and I’m bored when she’s not involved

Pros: Small snippets of the world with one overarching theme, interesting world, main character broody and mysterious, characters mostly believable, some humor
Cons: Weird structure, gore, cold and calculating
Recommended for: Adults who enjoy short stories

I enjoyed this book. It took a lot more attention for me to feel like I had gotten the most out of the book. When I started it I had mistakenly assumed it was a regular chapter-ed book. It's divided by numbers and page breaks, but the story is loosely centered around the main character with large time jumps in between. I found it hard to keep track of.

The story seems to be based off of fairy tales. The main character is tasked with taking care of the monstrosities for a price. He was taken at birth to be trained into a machine that know exactly how to kill and all of his enemy's weaknesses. Hopefully more books by this author are translated, I'd enjoy reading his origin story.

While not awful the book didn't grab my attention and make me want to only read this book and nothing else.

Well, it took me forever to finish this book. I started it in 2020, put it down, and finally finished it in 2022. I enjoyed the worldbuilding and the characters, but some of the chapters were slow. I found myself getting distracted and bored. It was nice to read this book and compare it to the The Witcher television show on Netflix.

Wow have I been missing out! Going to finish the series before I start on the games and hopefully, that'll be before season 2 comes out.
