I would give it 3.5 stars. A good story, but i didn’t love George’s character as much as I wanted to. Billie was amazing though. I also felt the storyline was a but slow at times.

Love/Hate relationships and a slow burn romance. The ending does get a bit tedious since we all know how it turns out, but still well worth it!

I think the reason im giving this 2 stars is because it’s my like 6th Julia Quinn book and this story just felt like a lackluster re-run of the others. I usually love Julia Quinn and her stories but this didn’t hit the mark for me like the others. Don’t let this review stop you from reading her books! Maybe just read this one first so the story feels more fresh

I really enjoyed this much more than I ought to.
It was cliché and completely predictable… and I loved every part of it!

Julia Quinn clearly knows how to write historical, steamy romance (although this book is way less steamy than her main Bridgertons’ saga). Her writing is smooth, easy going but with enough pace to never let you be bored. Billy was an awesome character, I imagined her as a young Elise in the farm side: she’s spunky, not that girlish, very intelligent and outgoing.
She is, of course, pretty, as all Bridgertons, even distant cousins, are, but that’s fine.
Her love interest, George, was fun, arrogant but also very sweet… enough to be handsome without being annoying.

If you love the Bridgerton Netflix adaptation, and in general historical romances, this is a great, quick read. I will go as far as saying I liked this more than many of the Bridgerton’s main saga books.

Unexpected delight

I expected a poorly written cheesy love story, but this was actually quite a lovely surprise. Definitely recommend for the romantics at heart.
