Addressed to the author's daughter, this essay is a pithy, emotional examination of how past and identity impact parenting. Singh exemplifies the merits of learning from the past to improve the future in the sweetest mother-daughter anecdotes.

Breathtaking. I found the first half easier to follow from point to point than the second half which is the only reason it isn’t five stars.

A letter from a mother to her six-year old daughter while she grapples with what it means to bring a child into what feels like a doomed world. Not exactly cheerful reading but beautifully written - a bit reminiscent of Maggie Nelson in its snippety essay style. I really enjoyed the meditations on queer home-making and imagining spaces that work for configurations of people outside of the nuclear family. That felt hopeful to me, new (old) ways of being in community that we haven't imagined enough in our capitalist world.
This book doesn't have easy answers but does ask some good questions. It really flowed in the reading. Recommend but only if you're feeling up to facing the climate crisis.

This book was written as a letter to the author’s child, and I think that is a cool premise. It’s very reflective and touches upon various aspects of parenting as well as just being a human and discussing different issues with children and others. Super thoughtful, it was both academic and readable.

This wasn't what I thought it was gonna be. I found it a bit shallow and woolly despite a few beautiful passages that I highlighted.
