I love a good second-chance romance and McFarlane has done it again. Georgina is perfectly relatable- thirty something, “everyone seems to be doing life better than me”, “I'm not sure what I want to do with my life”. Mmc is the perfect amount of mysterious and sweet. And the (recent)ex has just the right amount umph that I really hate him.
McFarlane likes to use trauma for character development. Some of her books it feels like a cheap trick but this one felt real and added depth.

Do be aware that it deals with:
complicated feelings of grief over death.
SA in the past and present
Stalking/social harassment. These arent triggers for me and I didn't think they overwhelmed the story even though they are major plot drivers. However I have several friends who I wouldn't recommend the book to for those reasons.

I wouldn't argue that it is the best book ever written, but I really enjoyed it. The style of writing is so easy to read; it's cosy and familiar and inviting. I turn to Mhairi MacFarlane's books whenever I haven't read in a while and I'm sure I will again.
