I loved that this is not typical romance yet still has a happy ending. Georgina is one of the strongest female characters I have ever read about and I loved her. Plus Lucas’ declaration of love is EVERYTHING!

I constantly contemplated DNFing throughout the first two-third of the book, but I'm glad I managed to finish it. I was looking for something lighthearted, but this wasn't it. This is not a romance book. This is the story of an almost 30-year-old woman trying to work through her traumas, deal with an emotionally abusive ex, and the reappearance of a teenage flame in her life.

If the public declarations of love in romantic comedies make you cringe, then this is the book for you! I honestly think the cartoonish cover does a disservice to the weighty subjects this book explores (grief, sexual assault, abusive romantic relationships). But then again the main character in this story consistently struggles to be taken seriously despite her fluffy outward appearance (her trademark is a pink faux fur coat). The writing is so incredibly charming and the audiobook really took the reading experience to the next level. This was my first Mhairi McFarlane book and it certainly won’t be my last. I already have another queued up!

I love this book. This was my second reading, one where I felt pulled back to try this scenario and meet these characters another time. I love how witty and upbeat Georgina is, I love how funny and irreverant her great aunt is, and I love how supportive her friends are of her, once she lets them in and shares her past. I didn’t care much for Lucas, I thought his attitude was pretty shitty, but at least he thought so too and was very sorry by the end of the book. Ultimately, I think this is a book about standing up for yourself, working through your past traumas and learning to understand other people’s perspectives.
