In this snarky retelling of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte is a friend of Jane's at school who follows her to Thornfield Hall...to implore her to please take the job as agent of the British ghosthunting society. Parts of the narrative are still true to the original, but there are many more ghosts, a visit to the king, and many more jokes about brooding men and very plain women. I'll admit (and you can look back at my review for confirmation) that I didn’t really adore the original Jane Eyre. For me, this retelling was a notch or two more amusing.

I'm glad I finally picked this up! It wasn't quite as good as the first one (that one was a five star and an all time favorite), but I still really enjoyed the writing style, and I thought the premise was super fun and entertaining. These books are big, but they're honestly super easy to fly through. Hopefully I enjoy the next one just as much!

I wasn't feeling the style. I bought this book when it came out as I liked the first and I thought I would like this better from the description. I think if I had read it back then I would have liked it, but right now, I'm really liking the story but I'm not feeling the style. It feels to YA for my liking right now. I'll probably donate it so the someone else can enjoy it as I do think these books are fun and well written.

I'm a huge fan of Jan Eyre and this book was just a hoot. I normally don't enjoy remixing of classic stories, but My Plain Jane kept my attention to the end. I didn't realize this was a YA book until I was already reading it. It's a very cute adaptation. I plan on doing a re-read in the future.

“If there was something strange in your neighborhood, you could, um, write the Society a letter, and they would promptly send an agent to take care of it.”

This companion novel unfortunately was a let down after how much I enjoyed My Lady Jane. I really think my expectations were too high. I was expected the same amazing humor and wit and talking to the reader. During this installment, I think the author's were trying too hard to recreate the feel of My Lady Jane and they fell short.

This was still a great take on Jane Eyre and I really enjoyed reading it but it was a disappointment compared to my expectations. We get three POVs in this installment as well. We follow Jane, Charlotte, and Alexander. I really enjoyed Charlotte and Alexander but Jane was not as enjoyable for me. I did enjoy how the story was different and the addition of ghosts. I will definitely still read the final book in this series and hopefully it will be better than this one.

This was everything historical, magical, and supernatural that I needed. I loved how the authors twisted the stories and how the characters intertwined. I was obsessed and couldn’t put it down.
