Not in the right headspace for the relationship between the narrator, his wife, and his son.

I struggled a bit with this book, tbh; on one hand, it knows how to be fun, on the other, the narrator is an absolute ass of a person and is up his own
the 'extra' chapter also had a couple of scenes that feel wrong to read, felt uncomfortable
Spoiler im talking about the 'sex' scene -- it felt like someone who wanted to jack off to two people who dont know how it works and also the childbirth -- especially when it comes to the pain descriptions, like, idk, feels weird man, to me this cemented the fact that maybe writing women isn't this man's strongsuit

so much fun immediately knew it was going to be 5 stars when Buttercup threatened to kill herself if Westley didn't show up. "Yours in torment, Buttercup," im obsessed with her

*rating the main story exclusively! however witty or interesting the anniversary intros + explanation for Buttercup's Baby were the fatphobia n sexism were Not :') just so so strange to me ! took so much away from the charm n wonder of it all

I had watched the movie first, so I came into reading the book with very high expectations. I was however very disappointed. I did not enjoy the writers style, or pave. I found myself alienated by that authors obsession with bodies and fat phobia which begins in the introduction. As well as his misogyny related to women in the introduction. I was also very much concerned at his depiction of “true love”. Which was shallow, cruel, toxic and not at all romantic. Particularly with the female characters love interest actually hitting her. I got to twenty pages before the end of the book and decided to just stop forcing myself to read. There are a few moments of humour and enjoyment, such as the initial scenes between Wesley and Ignacio. But sadly they are few and far between.

It's odd. I loved this book and couldn't put it away... But then after finishing most of it, I was simply annoyed and fed up. The characters are static and the 'old-fashioned gender roles' became dominting. I simply lost interst in reading "the ending" of the story.
