This would've been better without all of Goldman's stupid interruptions.
SpoilerObviously this is a fictional story and S. Morgenstern did not exist.
I had a very hard time enjoying this book when Goldman kept interrupting himself to add some useless fact or tell a story about his childhood. I skipped the first 42 pages cause he just rambles on. I just wanted the story of Buttercup and Westley. I don't care if you think he was a genius for how he writes this, I found it insufferable. I would've rated it two stars but I did like the story (minus Goldman being annoying).

Bottom line: THE MOVIE IS BETTER!

I loved the writing style of this book, but I absolutely hated how sexist Buttercup was portrayed. She was barely a character and only existed to compliment Westley or be obsessed with Westley. She had no skills. Buttercup’s Baby was also so unnecessary and I could have gone without it. This book added nothing that the movie didn’t already have. Also, the judgment against the narrator’s son’s weight was really not enjoyable to read.

DNF at 13%. I don’t know why people love this book. So far I have only been annoyed and angry at the main character who is a cheating fatshaming asshole. And there has been nothing intriguing about the storyline so far either. Now, I suspect that the story within the story will probably be more fun, but I have no wish to endure more of Mr Goldman to get to find out.

You lose nothing just from watching the movie. I find it much better, as you lose the annoying input of the author. It is outdated and parts are hard to stomach due to feeling distinctly sexist or racist.
