The amount of gay subtext in this book is truly remarkable.

On an unrelated note, Fezzick and Inigo are lovers.

This would've been better without all of Goldman's stupid interruptions.
SpoilerObviously this is a fictional story and S. Morgenstern did not exist.
I had a very hard time enjoying this book when Goldman kept interrupting himself to add some useless fact or tell a story about his childhood. I skipped the first 42 pages cause he just rambles on. I just wanted the story of Buttercup and Westley. I don't care if you think he was a genius for how he writes this, I found it insufferable. I would've rated it two stars but I did like the story (minus Goldman being annoying).

Bottom line: THE MOVIE IS BETTER!

DNF at 13%. I don’t know why people love this book. So far I have only been annoyed and angry at the main character who is a cheating fatshaming asshole. And there has been nothing intriguing about the storyline so far either. Now, I suspect that the story within the story will probably be more fun, but I have no wish to endure more of Mr Goldman to get to find out.

I love a good satire and more than anything this book is one. This book has so many genres wrapped into one that really narrowing it can be difficult. We're all familiar with the Westley/Buttercup story, but the abridgement's commentary and the story that it tells about Goldman and his family is just as interesting and may be harder hitting for adult readers. It is, however, very disruptive at times to the story and the pacing often is a little odd.

I haven't read this book in over 10 years, and my take on it is very different now. It's surprisingly mean-spirited in a lot of places (especially the frame narrative), and the fatphobia and body-shaming are really relentless. And for all I remember it as a sweeping love story, it's actually super cynical about romantic love. But in other ways it's still as funny and surprising and just plain fun as it was the first time I read it more than 2 decades ago.
