“ ‘There’s something exquisite about this, though,’ she said, taking in every detail of the church. ‘Hurricanes came and went, and they simply rebuilt. They didn’t tear it down and start new. They fixed what was broken because it meant something to them. It’s beautiful.’ ”

Ahhhhhh I LOVED THIS. What a surprise!

I recently tried The Fourth Wing by this author & did not like it at all, but wanted to give her older books a shot. I’m so glad I did!

What I loved:
  • unique setting (on a cruise for a Semester at Sea program!)
  • lesser written about sports that actually impacted the plot
  • just the right amount of angst
  • the 3rd act breakup. I normally can’t stand these, but I was gobsmacked with what Yarros wrote & like how she handles it
  • our MCs!! I was obsessed with Leah’s story from the get go. I had to follow her journey & learn more about her past. Agh I love her. And Paxton. SUCH a great male lead! Truly perfect for what I’m looking for in these books. On the outside he appears to be one thing, but he’s funny & sweet & loyal. And he’s fighting his own demons as well. I cannot stress enough how much I liked these two.

I can’t really say what I disliked without going into spoiler territory.

This year I’ve read a lot of contemporary & sports romances. They all start to blend together. But this one stands out. Memorable characters, setting, & story. Will definitely be reading more in this genre by Yarros!
