I don't know why I hadn't read this before. Oh yeah, I thought it would be boring and difficult to plow through. Fortunately I was wrong, this is a classic for a reason, and now on my list of favorites.

Was slightly worried because of Bertha's introduction. Now I think her symbolic role is fitting. I wonder if there's pessimism in Charlotte's part that Rochester had to be crippled for their marriage to work. I mean he learned a lot after that incident but it makes me think. Sappy endings are not to my liking but there's striking moral realism despite the over the top coincidences and subplots. Wonder how it would look like otherwise.

But nevertheless, Jane Eyre is a dazzling read befitting of a Victorian novel. Felt like everything I needed for a Romanticist novel. Searing first person narration that evokes empathy, intimacy, and vividness. Unbounded by literary genres and societal norms. A must read.
