I was relating to Alexander and his horrible, terrible, no good very bad day today. This book still holds up.

I think this one still holds up, and would be best suited for being read aloud by an expressive reader. The artwork does feel a bit dated... but I don't know kids well enough to know if that would bother them.

The four-year-old didn't like this one. It was too - although he didn't use the word - depressing for him. I recall finding it hilarious as a child, but I don't think I read it until I was older and had a few terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days of my own.

We're both named Alexander, and as a kid that meant it was a story about me. Most of the time that seemed like an easy argument to make.
At the very least every time I read this book I felt like someone saw things the way I did. As a kid I can't tell you how very important that was. Now that I am grown it still is.

Have always loved this - and such a great thing to share with a bummed-out-boy!
