Read The Company of Wolves for a creative writing class a year ago and really liked it. The prose caught me off more than any other story I read so I decided to sit down and read the rest. For starters, I gotta say, it is really good. There is something about the way that it is written that would be perfect to hear around a campfire. I'm not entirely sure I "got" the exact message behind many of the stories, that'll demand a reread in a few years I think. Even if you don't totally understand, just the writing style is enough to keep you captivated. "The Bloody Chamber", "The Lady of the House of Love", and the astonishingly tonally different "Puss-in-Boots" are some of my favorites.

A luxuriously-written, beautifully-sinister collection of short stories, that take fairytales as their inspiration. The first time I've read Angela Carter, but hopefully not the last!

This is such a great collection. Carter's grasp of perspective and tense is incredibly strong; each story has the perfect combination of both to create an incredibly compelling narration and character. Her word choice is beautiful - it's really just something else. Reading these stories is enjoyable, they just feel good to your brain. And the plots are interesting and engaging. Some are horror, others are not. All are reimaginings of fairytales and/or folklore figures (such as vampires and werewolves). I highly highly recommend. Many of these contain sexual content and themes, as well as dark sexuality, erotic horror, etc. So be advised this a collection most appropriate for adults.
