"Meet Dolores Price. She's 13, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood goodbye. Stranded in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally orbits into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before she really goes under." (From Amazon)

One of my favourite books period. As i am reading I often look at the author's photo to remind myself this is indeed written by a man. Lamb has the ability to make Delores a real person rather than a stereotype. While you may not identify or overly like Delores you will feel compassion and come to care for her.

This started out as a potential 5-star! Then I had to force myself through the rest. Every single time I closed this book, I felt awful. I love a coming-of-age story, but this was SO HARD to read. Not a single page was enjoyable. In the strangest sense, it felt like this author betrayed my trust?! And yet, the final line of the summary on the back rings true: I will never forget Dolores Price.

I don’t recommend this at all *unless you’re willing to put up with 455 depressing pages and 5 mediocre-happy pages :-)

Dark, often humerous, with an ending that is hopeful without being sappy.

Don't understand how he was able to capture what a teenage girl was feeling, but he sure did. I read it when I was a teenager and it has really stuck with me.

This book is absolutely horrible! It took every once of willpower I had to make it to the half way point before tossing it in my "junk books" pile.
