While I would've loved to get a full length novel with this story, I enjoyed this novella from these authors. I really liked the psychological element of this, the unknown and the terror of trying to escape the kidnapping.
The killer's motivations seemed a bit lackluster and bland, and the ending was way too convenient, but obviously with so little time to get from A to Z, it's understandable. Still enjoyable and exciting!

 Chloe Powell needs a break and a yoga retreat that is off the grid sounds perfect. Chloe fills out the extremely personal application questions and is on her way. She is met by a driver at the airport who takes her out into a rural area, where she must turn over her phone. The next day she meets her new roommate who leaves her a note in the closet - in her own blood. Chloe begins to realize that something is very wrong at the yoga retreat and it may cost her her life.Â

Normally anything by Greer and Pekkanen is at least a 4-star read for me but this was a little disappointing. I think the short run time of this novella worked against the quality of the story. These authors need a longer book in order to fully set the mood and flesh out the characters. This is not one of my favorites by this duo.Â

Most thrillers should be this short.
Good book but nothing special.
I love reading because I love stories. I love stories more than words. (If that makes sense.) Some stories genuinely don’t need to be hundreds of pages.
Also it was free on Audible. So that’s great.

I would say that this story is a pretty good one, but of course it has it's flaws. Let me explain.
So I think the characters could use a bit of work. It's learned early-on the Chloe is a politician, but the only time that was mentioned, at least frequently, was the beginning. I think that this could've delved more into a political standpoint and the authors opinions on politics, or if they don't want to start that much drama, maybe hint at least show that she was a politician. Along with that, Chloe just felt dumb at the beginning.
For the other characters, like the fiance(I forgot the name) I felt were really well made characters. They felt realistic making their actions have feeling.
Now, the worldbuilding. I won't pick on it too much since this is a short story, but either way, I liked what I got .
With that settled down, let's talk about the plot. I found it to be pretty okay, but I think that it would've been better for it to be a novel or novelette to get to develop really everything more. I felt like it was unique, and though the plot twists felt predictable, the writing just launched every bad thing out of here.

I was so excited about this, and it did provide good entertainment, but it would've worked better as an actual novel or even a six-hour-audio.
Oddly, it wasn't about a cult. Everything about it was screaming IT'S A CULT! but no, sir, no cults here.
A little more buildup would have been great, but it's still worth the time to listen to it.
