Solid read. Interesting progression of how toxic masculinity truly lead to the ruin of the morality of Evangelicals. Very informative but I got a little lost when I came to names/identities of some of the key players.

A really fascinating angle on how Jesus-worship evolved into military/nationalism-worship. Might not be a comfortable read for everyone, but it's an angle that should be explored nonetheless. This is well put together and easy to follow.

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. If you’ve ever wondered how it’s possible for the US to be where it is, this book provides SO MUCH CONTEXT. Honestly I haven’t been able to shut up about this book. Incredibly well researched, the writing is compelling, and the structure is fantastic; it truly brings you on the journey of how evangelicalism began and how it got to where it is now. Amazing.

This book is full of triggers, so be forewarned before you read it. It filled me with shame for having voted for Reagan the first time I got to vote (I was only mimicking my parents’ votes, but still…). It also makes me wonder why the Islamic culture is the enemy when there are so many parallels in the White evangelical culture that run this country. The book also makes clear to me that everything wrong with the US is perpetuated by this same group.
