The books in this series are too formulaic. Richard encounters a new enemy, he has to master a new power to defeat that enemy, repeat. It's basically a fantasy version of Dragonball Z.

Pretty solid addition to what was set up in the first book, but the exposition felt a bit much at times, and the ending wrapped up a little too conveniently.

I have some strong feelings about Terry Goodkind...
I enjoyed this read, it's huge but manages to be engaging, but my god, it's such a classic boy's club fantasy.

This book is truly epic. There were times when I would look up and be surprised that after several hundred pages, there hadn't been a boring or dull moment. That's usually great news. The problem with this book and its never ending excitement is that some of the scenes in the book are downright gruesome. And in a book this long, those gruesome scenes tend to last a very long time, going on and on and on in great detail. It's a great story, and I plan to read the next book in the series, but I definitely had to remove a star from the rating for the sheer depravity of some of the scenes.

Better than I expected, though some of it was highly predictable.
