A wonderful retelling of a Grimm Fairy Tale. My daughter and I listened to the audiobook together and when she was busy and couldn't listen I would wonder what was going to happen next and how the story would resolve. Very well done.

This book is a beautiful fairytale with complex ideas and themes I did not understand when I read it as a middle schooler.

I picked this up after Hale visited the local library - she was great. This was a fun read - it felt like a fairy tale, but not old-fashioned, if that makes sense. I'll be reading more.

You know you're reading a good book when:
-Even though you've read it a million times, it still makes you smile when the hero comes in to save the day.
-You sit on the couch smiling like an idiot because it's so good.
-You read it all in one sitting.
-The romance gives you shivers.

This book is amazing. It's one of those books that made me sigh in satisfaction, not only after I closed it, but while I was reading it! I'd find a particularly nice piece of description or dialogue and go, "Ahhh, that was nice." Some of the word pictures are just gorgeous, and the story does a wonderful job of building off of but still staying true to the original story. I'm a fan of the fairy tale and I was very, very pleased with the way Hale tied all the abilities and magic and the world in with the events in the original, while still fleshing it out satisfactorily.

I'll say this book was enjoyable for the most part. I most definitely did like the way it was written - it seemed more of a contemporary fantasy than a high fantasy as most people think to call it.

This was also the first time I ever came across the fairy tale of "Goose Girl" and was fairly surprised to find that I liked it. I read the original fairy tale while I read this and was pleased to find that it stayed pretty well close to the original without being too predictable. *applaud*

However...

It has taken me the entirety of my high-school career to even remotely decide to give "The Goose Girl" a chance - simply due to the original cover of the book. It may just be me, but I feel that the original GG by Hale had a cover that was incredibly displeasing to the eyes - that includes the subsequent "Enna Burning" and "River Secrets" books. That is my opinion, and I must say I am incredibly pleased to have come across a much more soft-on-the-eyes cover for "The Goose Girl".

Even so - it was a good book, and I am intrigued to an extent to read more of the Books of Bayern series. :)

There's a good, if very predictable, story here, but much of the dialogue comes off as stilted and awkward. Still, enjoyable characters and a character struggling between the talents she has and the talents a ruler needs.
